Flight compensation calculator
A flight compensation calculator works out the amount set in Israel's Aviation Services Law by the flight distance from Ben Gurion to the destination, not by the ticket price: ₪1,530 for 2,000 km or less, ₪2,450 between 2,000 and 4,500 km, and ₪3,670 for over 4,500 km, per passenger. When an alternative flight arrived within the time window in the law, the amount is reduced to 50%. Eligibility depends on the circumstances. Compensation for a cancelled flight, all the details.

A cancellation without enough notice and without an alternative within the limits of the law: full compensation.
On top of the cash compensation, you can also claim a refund of the ticket price (or an alternative ticket, as you choose) and assistance. These are separate rights, one does not replace the other.
The calculator works from what you enter. The real check matches the flight number against the Ben Gurion flight board.
The calculator applies the amounts and thresholds in Israel's Aviation Services Law (2026 figures): full compensation ₪1,530 / ₪2,450 / ₪3,670 by distance, and reduced compensation ₪765 / ₪1,225 / ₪1,835 when the passenger took an alternative flight and arrived within the time window in the law. Notice given 14 days or more in advance cancels the cash compensation. The result is an estimate, not legal advice. Actual eligibility depends on the circumstances and the exceptions in the law, and the airline must prove any exception.
How the calculator reaches the amount
3 things decide the cash compensation: the flight distance (3 bands), what happened to the flight (a cancellation, or a delay of 8 hours or more, which counts as a cancellation), and what the airline did about it (when it notified you, and whether it offered an alternative that arrived within the time window in the law). Multiply by the number of passengers, and you have the amount.
| Distance band | Full compensation | Reduced compensation (50%) | Arrival window that reduces it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2,000 km or less | ₪1,530 | ₪765 | 2 hours at most |
| 2,000-4,500 km | ₪2,450 | ₪1,225 | 3 hours at most |
| Over 4,500 km | ₪3,670 | ₪1,835 | 4 hours at most |
The distance is calculated along the great circle from Ben Gurion to the destination airport. A destination close to a band limit needs exact checking before a demand, and we flag it.
What the calculator cannot do
A calculator works from what you enter. The airline, on the other hand, will deal with evidence: the real departure time, whether the flight was marked CANCELED on the Ben Gurion flight board, and what other airlines did on the same route that day. In our free check, the flight number is matched against the Ben Gurion flight board, and the status is saved as a signed snapshot with a file fingerprint. That is the difference between "what I remember" and evidence.
Common questions about calculating compensation
How is compensation for a cancelled flight calculated?
Cash compensation under Israel's Aviation Services Law depends on the flight distance from Ben Gurion to the destination, not on the ticket price: ₪1,530 for 2,000 km or less, ₪2,450 for 2,000-4,500 km, and ₪3,670 for over 4,500 km, for each passenger on the booking. If you got an alternative flight that reached the destination within the time window in the law, the amount is reduced by half.
Is the calculator binding on the airline?
No. The calculator applies the amounts in the law to the data you enter, and it is an estimate. Actual eligibility depends on the circumstances of the cancellation, the notice given, and the exceptions in the law. In our check, the flight number is matched against the official flight board of the Israel Airports Authority, and that is the evidence presented to the airline.
Is compensation added on top of a ticket refund?
Yes. Cash compensation and a ticket refund are 2 separate rights. After a written demand, the ticket price should be refunded within 21 days and the compensation paid within 45 days.
What do I get for a 6-hour delay?
A delay of 5-8 hours does not, by itself, give fixed cash compensation. What you do get: a choice between a full refund of the ticket price and an alternative ticket, and assistance. From 8 hours late at departure, the flight is treated as cancelled, and then full cash compensation applies again.
How far back can I calculate?
4 years back, which is the limitation period. If your flight was years ago, it is worth checking, even if the airline once gave you a negative answer.
This is general information, not legal advice. Actual eligibility depends on the circumstances of each flight. FlyBack is not a law firm.
